A runner with arms.
Yes, I can hear you now. “But don’t all runners have arms? If not human, then prosthetic?” And yes, most runners probably do have arms. But I don’t want just arms. I have just arms.
I want arms.
You know, like these arms:
You see, women runners with arms are fast. It’s obviously the key to being a successful runner (mostly sarcasm).
I have probably 20% arms. If I try, I can make a partial arm.
Now, I do want Morgan Uceny’s arms… but not her luck in big races. Google “Morgan Uceny fall” if you’re unsure of what I’m referring to… I still remember how incredibly sad and frustrated I felt for her during her 1500m race at the Olympics in 2012.
Shalane Flanagan, also with arms but not as crazy defined. That’s probably more my style.
So there it is – my winter goal. I want arms to show off the next time I run a big race in a tank top. People will be like, “That girl might be fast. She has arms.”
Obviously, this is all a little crazy, but hey… running is a lot of mental strength, right? So if mentally I feel fast and strong because I know I have arms, then maybe it’ll be the extra push I need.
And I’m not ashamed to admit every time I get into the bathroom to shower after teaching, I make my running arm formation and see if my arms have upgraded from 20%. Today, we’re feeling 21%.
Anyone else have crazy quirks? I know aiming for abs like Jenny Simpson is pretty high up there for a lot of women runners.
